Medical Providers

Medical providers have a unique work experience that can often provide great joy and satisfaction. But this is usually after many painful years of finding the work/life balance. Being on-call, post-call,  or even in a solo practice, a providers life can interfere with  soccer games, holidays, and family events in  a way most other professionals don't experience.  This level of stress (without balance) has a cost to one's physical and emotional health, not to mention, one's relationships.  And without finding balance, this stress  can lead to burn-out, substance abuse, and mental health symptoms. But, providers aren't supposed to have those problems and are often likely nor to seek help for fear of stigma. As a psychologist, I adhere to strict confidentiality standards set by the Board of Psychology.

I remain on the medical staff at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland providing support to medical providers through my role as the psychological lead of the Medical Staff Wellbeing Committee and as the Co-facilitator of Schwartz Center Rounds for Compassionate Care.  I understand the rigor of medical training, the administrative demands of the hospital (including  electronic health records and Joint Commission visits), and shift work.  Whether it is a visit or two to help clear your mind, or ongoing therapy to address secondary trauma and burn-out, I am here to help. I will do my best to accomodate an unconventional schedule.
